For detailed information about how to use a connection string in an ODBC application, refer to the documentation for the application that you are using.

The connection strings in the following sections are examples showing the minimum set of connection attributes that you must specify to successfully connect to the data source.

Depending on the configuration of the data source and the type of connection you are working with, you might need to specify additional connection attributes.

For detailed information about all the attributes that you can use in the connection string, see Driver Configuration Options. You can set additional configuration options by appending key-value pairs to the connection string. Configuration options that are passed in using a connection string take precedence over configuration options that are set in the DSN. Some applications provide support for connecting to a data source using a driver without a DSN.

To connect to a data source without using a DSN, use a connection string instead. The following is the format of a DSN-less connection string that connects to an Impala server that does not require authentication:. For example:. The following is the format of a DSN-less connection string that connects to an Impala server requiring Kerberos authentication:. The following is the format of a DSN-less connection string that connects to an Impala server using Advanced Kerberos authentication:.

The following is the format of a DSN-less connection string that connects to an Impala server requiring User Name authentication.

By default, the driver uses anonymous as the user name. All Files. Our drivers undergo extensive testing and are certified to be compatible with leading analytics and reporting applications like Tableau, Microsoft Excel, and many more.

Our exclusive Remoting feature allows hosting the ODBC connection on a server to enable connections from various clients on any platform Java. The driver includes a library of 50 plus functions that can manipulate column values into the desired result.

These customizations are supported at runtime using human-readable schema files that are easy to edit. The replication commands include many features that allow for intelligent incremental updates to cached data.

With traditional approaches to remote access, performance bottlenecks can spell disaster for applications. Regardless if an application is created for internal use, a commercial project, web, or mobile application, slow performance can rapidly lead to project failure. Accessing data from any remote source has the potential to create these problems. Common issues include:. The CData ODBC Driver for Impala solves these issues by supporting powerful smart caching technology that can greatly improve the performance and dramatically reduce application bottlenecks.

Smart caching is a configurable option that works by storing queried data into a local database. Enabling smart caching creates a persistent local cache database that contains a replica of data retrieved from the remote source. The cache database is small, lightweight, blazing-fast, and it can be shared by multiple connections as persistent storage. More information about ODBC Driver caching and best caching practices is available in the included help files. Access Apache Impala data from virtually any application that can access external data.

The language is simple and elegant, and a huge scientific ecosystem - SciPy - written in Cython has been aggressively evolving in the past several years. In fact, I dare say Python is my favorite programming language, beating Scala by only a small margin. For data science, my favorite programming environment is Jupyter Notebookan elegant and powerful web application that allows blending live code with explanatory text, tables, images and other visualizations.

I also love using Impala. Although there are several tools such as DbVisualizer that allow connecting to Impala via JDBC and viewing results in a user-friendly tabular format, they restrict data processing to SQL, and SQL is usually not the language of choice for serious wrangling or analysis of Big Data. In this post, I discuss how to connect to a remote Impala daemon and execute queries using pyodbcand convert the results into a pandas DataFrame for analysis.

The code below shows a minimal example of how a simple query can be executed remotely, and how the results can be fetched into a pandas DataFrame.

Note: Certain configuration settings may differ in your environment; modify code accordingly. This example uses username and password authentication with SSL and self-signed certificates. There you go! Now you can easily fetch data from your Hadoop cluster into a pandas DataFrame and play with the data using your favorite Python library! You can try to subclass ibis. Since ibis's impala client basically, does everything with SQL calls provided that it adheres reasonably to the dbapi it should work. Skip to content. Hi guys, I've read that there is ongoing connection issue to kerberized clusters, and it's not solved yet even with hs2client. With this in mind, can we use ibis to receive connection string? You make it sounds so simple I really want to take a stab at this issue : So from user API side, do you think ibis impala should support multiple connection engine?

The goal of ODBC is to make it possible to access any data from any application, regardless of which database management system DBMS is handing the data. The ODBC driver manager normally looks after these definitions and consults them when applications connect to a data source.

However, this is a rather simplistic description of what the driver manger does. The ODBC driver manger also:. The location of this file is configure-time variable defined with --sysconfdir but it is always the file odbcinst. You can tell unixODBC to look in a different path to that wich it was configured for the odbcinst.

C# Database Connection Strings - What They Are, How to Build Them, And More

This can be a very useful debugging aid but it should be remembered that tracing will slow you application down. There are a couple of points that should be considered before using pooled connections. Lets take a example of this. Assume you have a page that requests a password from a user, then using this password, alters the default database to one that other users are not allowed access to, if this connection is reused by another user, they will have access to data they should not be allowed to see.

If your scripts do things like this, or change default database, or in any way change the connection to the database, it may be worth avoiding pooling. Pooling is only effective when used within a process, a good example is a web server using PHP and ODBC, the connections will be pooled within each web server process, and reused, with a hopeful performance increase. A bad example would be a external CGI program, as each time its run, its a different process, there is nothing to be gained from pooling.

Pooling is enabled by editing the odbcinst. The setup to enable a pooled connection, would look like this…. This value indicates the number of seconds a pooled connection will remain open if it is not being used.

Note that the connections are only closed when another connection is opened, or checked. On bit editions of Debian, you can execute both bit and bit application. However, bit applications must use bit drivers, and bit applications must use bit drivers. Make sure that you use the version of the driver that matches the bitness of the client application:.

Kerberos must be installed and configured before you can use this authentication mechanism. The keytab file is a binary file, so be sure to transfer it in a way that does not corrupt it. This authentication mechanism allows concurrent connections within the same process to use different Kerberos user principals.

When you use Advanced Kerberos authentication, you do not need to run the kinit comamnd to obtain a Kerberos ticket. Instead, you use a JSON file to map your Impala user name to a Kerberos user principal name and a keytab that contains the corresponding keys.
